Mysterious underwater construction discovered at Lovina Beach - a remnant of the VOC ?

November 2009 - During a snorkel trip one of the guests of the Adirama Beach Hotel discovered a strange underwater construction, located at ca. 150 mtr off the beach in the sea behind the hotel, near the pier that falls dry with low tide.

The construction consists of three stone squares on top of each other with the corners of the higher squares positioned on top of the middle of the sides of the lower ones. The lowest square measures ca. 5x5 mtr, the top one ca. 2x2 mtr, thus forming a pyramid-like construction. The top of the construction lies about 2 mtr under water, depending on the tide. The construction appears to be positioned at the edge of the reef, at a few meter distance from a ca. 100 meter deep trench.

Since the discovery of this mysterious construction, several suggestions have been made on the origin of the construction, among others,

  • an underwater anchor place of the VOC
  • the base of a primitive lighthouse
  • a Buddhist watertemple

We are very interested to hear your opinion, so don't hestitate to contact us if you have one.

Opening Ceremony of Adirama's new Raja Suit.

At Saturday, November 28 2009, the opening ceremony of Adirama's new Raja Suite took place with a cleansing ceremony during daytime, in the evening followed by a well-visited party with traditional music and dance, and a walking buffet with several kinds of delicious dishes.

The guests who attended the party could among others enjoy several traditional dances performed by students of entertainment manager and dance teacher Anik, and "Bondres", which is the Balinese version of comic play with its performers dressed up in traditional costumes and masks. The Bondres was performed by the wellknown topeng (=mask) group "Dwi Mekar", led by pak Durpa.

The evening was closed by more modern Balinese music performed by members of the Adirama staff.

Adirama keeps environment clean

Since May 2008 Adirama Beach Hotel employs extra staff to keep the environment of the hotel clean, in particular the beach of Adirama and two nearby river outlets.

Adirama purchased two special waste containers wich have been installed close to each of the river outlets.

The waste that is in the water of the rivers is taken out and collected in the waste containers, to prevent that the sea and the beach get polluted. The beach behind Adirama is cleaned on a daily basis from waste that is left behind or washed ashore by the sea.

Adirama's initiative has been well received by the village and we anticipate that this initiative will be followed by more hotels in the area.

Adirama replaces pathways of its tropical garden

First half 2008 Adirama Beach Hotel decided to replace the pathways of its tropical gardens.

Thanks to its clever inherent drainage system these brand new, black-and-white mosaic pathways stay free of floodings that may be caused by rain fall during the wet season.

Adirama's new pathways are therefore safe and slip-free when wet.

Bull Races in Lovina

In October 2007 Lovina was once more the decor for traditional Balinese bull races.

Normally you will only see these bulls on farm land and rice fields, where they are used by the local farmers to pull the traditional plough.

Every now and then, however, these strong bulls can be admired during folklore events with special bull races. On such days the bulls and the bull 'carts' are beautifully adorned.

Traditional bull racing is a regular, reoccuring event in North Bali and chances are that a race will be held during your stay at Adirama Beach Hotel Lovina.
